For your basic information, the concept of Ying Yang and the core of the app are listed below.

  • Concept of Ying Yang— In Chinese philosophy, the concept of yin-yang, often called “yin and yang”, is used to describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces are interconnected and interdependent in the natural world. Many natural dualities (such as female and male, dark and light, low and high, cold and hot, water and fire, life and death, and so on) are thought of as physical manifestations of the yin-yang concept.
  • Core of the app—According to the duality from “yin and yang”, Chinese characters are decomposed into two parts. When the game starts, there are dozens of parts of Chinese characters falling down. The players are to pair up the two parts into one complete character as many as possible within the time limit.

Whats Good

It’s nice to have another method apart from exams to help learners strengthen their recognition of Chinese characters which is absolutely the most difficult part for people learning Chinese as a second language. Through this game, the ancient Chinese philosophy is spreading out, making the process of learning not only the basics of language itself but also tracing back to “yin and yang”, the wisdom of ancient Chinese.

What Could Be Better

Somehow when users play this game, it doesn’t matter what’s your capacity for Chinese or you have zero knowledge on Chinese as you can simply treat all the character parts as puzzle parts. Knowledge on Chinese often hinders you from making a decision. To enhance the impression and understanding of the characters, there could be the pronunciation of Chinese characters  when it’s completed.
